How this generator works
The sheet is an SVG drawn in physical units: every coordinate is a real millimeter, not a screen pixel. The control sets the one measurement that defines manuscript paper — the gap between staff lines — and everything else follows from it: five lines make a staff four gaps tall, and consecutive staves are separated by four more gaps of blank space, which leaves room for ledger lines, stems, and lyrics without the staves reading as one block. Only whole staves are drawn, and the block is centered vertically so the top and bottom margins match; the readout reports the gap in millimeters and inches alongside the number of staves that fit, so you know the layout before you spend the paper.
Choosing the size is the whole decision. Published sheet music sits near a 7 mm staff, which is the 1.75 mm default here; teaching and beginner manuscript runs much larger, because a pencil notehead that fits a 7 mm staff is a chore for a nine-year-old; and dense sketching or condensed-score work goes smaller. Printing is where most printable-paper sites quietly fail, because "Fit to page" rescales their fixed PDFs and a 7 mm staff arrives at 6.6 mm. This page sets the print size to match your chosen sheet exactly and keeps the staves inside a 12.7 mm default margin, so nothing needs rescaling — leave the dialog at 100% or "Actual size" and the millimeters on paper match the readout. The honest limits: this is blank staff paper and nothing more. There are no clefs, key signatures, time signatures, barlines, braces, or brackets, and because the staves are evenly spaced, nothing on the page groups them into systems — for piano or ensemble writing you add those marks by hand. Very fine settings have a physical floor too: below roughly 1.2 mm the gaps stop holding a handwritten notehead, and line weights under about 0.2 mm render inconsistently on consumer printers, which is why the default weight is 0.3 mm. And if your print dialog is set to fit, shrink, or scale, no generator can save the measurements.
